OHL Playoff Primer: Eastern Division

The 2016-2017 Ontario Hockey League's regular season has officially ended and the first-round matchups for the Western Division can be seen here below. The OHL playoff format is the same as the NHL where the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed in each round, the finals are the winner of the Eastern and Western Division, all series are best of 7 (win 4 games). Eastern Division series are as follows:

#1 Peterborough Petes Vs. #8 Niagara Ice Dogs
- Peterborough has earned the #1 seed in the East with a record of 42-21-5
- Niagara earned the last spot in the East with a record of 23-35-10
- The Petes won the regular season series against the Ice Dogs, winning 3 of the 4 games
- Leading scorer for the Petes: Nikita Korotelev 17 goals, 18 assists
- Leading scorer for the Ice Dogs: Johnny Corneil 31 goals, 31 assists  

#2 Mississauga Steelheads Vs. #7 Ottawa 67's 
- Mississauga has earned the #2 overall seed with a record of 34-21-13
- The 67's earned the second to last playoff spot with a record of 26-34-8
- These two teams split the series at two games a piece, each winning at the other team's barn
- Leading scorer for the Steelheads: Owen Tippett 44 goals, 31 assists
- Leading scorer for the 67's: Artur Tyanulin 24 goals, 61 assists

#3 Oshawa Generals Vs. #6 Sudbury Wolves 
- Oshawa finished with a record of 40-23-5
- Sudbury finished with a record of 27-34-7
- These two teams split the season series at two games a piece
- Leading scorer for the Generals: Domenic Commisso 19 goals, 44 assists

#4 Kingston Frontenacs Vs. #5 Hamilton Bulldogs 
- Kingston finished with a record of 33-26-9
- Hamilton finished with a record of 33-27-8
- Kingston won the regular season series, taking three of four against Hamilton
- Leading scorer for Kingston: Jason Robertson 42 goals, 39 assists
- Leading scorer for Hamilton: Matthew Strome 34 goals, 28 assists

Greyhounds' Offense Too much for Rangers, Rangers Fall 6-1

The Greyhounds from Sault Ste. Marie only needed 29 shots on goal to score 6 goals and defeat the Kitchener Rangers by a score of 6-1 in front of home crowd of 3,800 fans. The Greyhounds opened up the scoring halfway into the first period when forward Bobby Macintyre scored on the power play and left-winger Boris Katchouk scored a shorthanded goal, the first of two for Katchouk that would end up being the game winner. Rangers right winger Joseph Garreffa scored their lone goal with 3 minutes left in the game, but it was too little too late at that point. Greyhounds rookie goaltender Matthew Villalta saved 40 of the 41 shots he faced for the victory while Rangers goaltenders Luke Opilka and LukeRichardson combined to save 23 of 29 shots in the loss. This victory pushed the season series between these two teams to 3-1-0 in favor of Sault Ste. Marie and the 5-year series to 12-7-0 in favor of the greyhounds. Credit Elite Prospects  With the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea  less than a year away and NHL still not having any set plans in place for their sending their players to these games, it is looking as if the biggest hockey league in North America will not be participating.
