OHL Playoff Primer: Eastern Division

The 2016-2017 Ontario Hockey League's regular season has officially ended and the first-round matchups for the Western Division can be seen here below. The OHL playoff format is the same as the NHL where the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed in each round, the finals are the winner of the Eastern and Western Division, all series are best of 7 (win 4 games). Eastern Division series are as follows:

#1 Peterborough Petes Vs. #8 Niagara Ice Dogs
- Peterborough has earned the #1 seed in the East with a record of 42-21-5
- Niagara earned the last spot in the East with a record of 23-35-10
- The Petes won the regular season series against the Ice Dogs, winning 3 of the 4 games
- Leading scorer for the Petes: Nikita Korotelev 17 goals, 18 assists
- Leading scorer for the Ice Dogs: Johnny Corneil 31 goals, 31 assists  

#2 Mississauga Steelheads Vs. #7 Ottawa 67's 
- Mississauga has earned the #2 overall seed with a record of 34-21-13
- The 67's earned the second to last playoff spot with a record of 26-34-8
- These two teams split the series at two games a piece, each winning at the other team's barn
- Leading scorer for the Steelheads: Owen Tippett 44 goals, 31 assists
- Leading scorer for the 67's: Artur Tyanulin 24 goals, 61 assists

#3 Oshawa Generals Vs. #6 Sudbury Wolves 
- Oshawa finished with a record of 40-23-5
- Sudbury finished with a record of 27-34-7
- These two teams split the season series at two games a piece
- Leading scorer for the Generals: Domenic Commisso 19 goals, 44 assists

#4 Kingston Frontenacs Vs. #5 Hamilton Bulldogs 
- Kingston finished with a record of 33-26-9
- Hamilton finished with a record of 33-27-8
- Kingston won the regular season series, taking three of four against Hamilton
- Leading scorer for Kingston: Jason Robertson 42 goals, 39 assists
- Leading scorer for Hamilton: Matthew Strome 34 goals, 28 assists

Atlantic Hockey Showdown: Playoff Round #3

"Canisius Wins 2013 Championship" Courtesy Canisius Athletics Round #2 Recap:  #7 Mercyhurst (1) Vs. #3 Army (2)  The Army Black Knights barely avoided one of the largest upsets of the tournament thus far by beating the Mercyhurst Lakers in a very close 3 game series 2 games to 1. On Friday night Army exploded with 6 goals to take game #1 6-4, the Golden Knights were lead by freshman forward Brendan Soucie with 2 goals. In game #2 it took overtime but Mercyhurst was able to pull out the victory and extend their visit to West Point for another day with a 3-2 overtime victory, Sophomore Forward Matthew Whittaker  led Mercyhurst with two goals including the overtime winner. Steelheads Use Six Goal 3rd Period to Roll Over Petes

The Mississauga Steelheads defeated the Peterborough Petes 10-1 in front of 2,282 of their home fans. The Steelheads opened up the scoring at around the midway point of the first period and didn’t stop scoring until near the end of the second period, by that time the Steelheads where up 4-0.  At 17:30 of the 2 nd period Peterborough’s Logan DeNoble scored his 32 nd goal of the season to break the Steelheads run, however this would be the only goal they would score all game. The Steelheads would continue to pour it on the in the third period, scoring six more goals before the end of the game. Mississauga was lead offensively by Michael McLeod 93 (3 goals, 3 assists) and Spencer Watson (2 goals, 2 assists) and rookie goaltender Jacob Ingham stopped 26 of 27 shots faced for the victory. Petes goaltender Scott Smith was left in for all 10 goals and only managed to stop 24 of 34 shots faced in the loss. This was the first win of the season over the Petes this
