First Blog Post!

Welcome to the first blog posting of Risers and Visors!

Who am I? /Why am I posting?

I am currently enrolled at Mercyhurst University with a double major in communication and Information Technology. I was a four year member of both the volleyball and lacrosse team at my high school, but for as long as I can remember I have always been interested in hockey. Over the past couple years my interest in hockey has pushed me from being just a casual viewer of NHL games towards more in depth views on the players themselves and what it takes to make it into such a competitive league. During this push into the depths of the hockey world I began to notice that the further away you get from the NHL into the junior league ranks, there is a surprising lack of coverage which is something I hope to help change through the creation of this blog.

What will I be posting?

I will primarily be using this blog to highlight interesting games in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), but as the season rolls along I will also be doing player profile on up and coming rookies, Stanley Cup Playoff Predictions, and even looking back on some of my favorite games of all time from seasons past. Since I am based in Erie, PA I will try my best to make sure that one of these games each week involves the Erie Otters in some way or another. Feel free to follow me on twitter for live updates or if you want to contact me about anything you'd like to see on this blog for the future!

From 2005 to the end of the 2013 season they either did not qualify for the playoffs or were quickly bounced in the first round. All of this started to change when they drafted future NHL superstar Connor McDavid first overall in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection Draft. This pickup of one of the greatest young players of this decade along with other players beginning to step up allowed for the Otters to jump into serious playoff contention, as they made it to the Conference Finals each of the last three years. Credit Erie Highlight Reel Unfortunately each of the last three years the Otters have failed to win the OHL championship and qualify for a shot at the coveted Memorial cup, but this year just might be their chance. After management took a look at all of the aging star power on their team that will soon be gone, most of whom will be gone at the end of the season, the...
