OHL Playoff Roundup: Greyhounds beat Flint in Five Games to Advance

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defeated the Flint Firebirds in the first round of the OHL Playoffs four games to one and are on to the next round. The Greyhounds are the are #2 seed in the Western Conference and will play the second lowest remaining seed in said Conference.

Game #1: Sault Ste. Marie (5) Vs. Flint (2) 1-0 Greyhounds
The Greyhounds took a convincing 1-0 series lead by defeating the Flint Firebirds 5-2 in front of a home crowd of 3,342 fans. The Greyhounds were led by forward Hayden Verbeek, who scored two of the three first goal and the eventual game winner at 8:25 of the second period. Flint goaltender Connor Hicks stopped 32 of 36 shots in the loss while greyhounds netkeeper Matthew Villalta stopped 19 of 21 Flint shots to earn his first win of the playoffs.

Game #2: Sault Ste. Marie (3) Vs. Flint (6) 1-1 Ties Series 
The Flint Firebirds evened up the series at one game a piece with a 6-3 road victory over the Greyhounds in front of 3,901 fans. The Firebirds turned the tables on the Greyhounds as tonight it was their turn to score three unanswered goals to start the game, however this was not enough to win as left wingers Maurizio Colella scored Flint's fourth and eventual game winning goal at 11:54 of the second period. Boston Bruins first round draft pick Zachary Senyshyn scored his first goal of the playoffs for the Greyhounds in the loss.

Game #3: Flint (1) Vs. Sault Ste. Marie (3) 2-1 Greyhounds
The Greyhounds got back to their winning ways in their first road game of the playoffs, beating the Firebirds 3-1 at their own rink in front of 2,878 fans. Flint opened up the scoring at 8:12 of the first period when Kole Sherwood scored an unassisted goal, his second of the playoffs. Sault Set. Marie would then go on to score the final three goals of the game including the game winner by Zachary Senyshyn at 13:37 of the third period, his second of the playoffs. Greyhounds goaltender Joseph Raaymakers was impressive as he stopped 33 of 34 Flint shots to earn his second victory of the playoffs.

Game #4: Flint (2) Vs. Sault Ste. Marie (5) 3-1 Greyhounds 
The Greyhounds used a five goal offensive outburst to defeat the Firebirds by a score of 5-2 in front of a discouraged 2,789 fans at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint Michigan. The Greyhounds came out firing right out of the gates, scoring the game's first four goals including the eventual game winner from Greyhounds forward Boris Katchouk, his fourth goal of the playoffs. Flint was kept in the game by goaltender Connor Hicks, who stopped 31 of 36 shots including multiple breakaway shots in the latter stage of the game.

Game #5: Sault Ste. Marie(6) Vs. Flint (1) 
The Greyhounds used a four goal second period to finish off the series against Flint in front of a home crowd of 3,992 fans. The Greyhounds were led offensively by forward Tim Gettinger with a goal and two assists which also happened to be the game winner. Flint goaltender Connor Hicks had another rough outing, stopping 33 of 39 shots in the loss.
