Road to the NCAA Frozen Four Part 2

Round #1: 

#3 Harvard (3) Vs. Providence (0)
The third ranked Harvard Crimson beat up on the Providence Friars 3-0 in their first game of the tournament. Forward Tyler Moy led the Crimson with 2 goals and goaltender Merrick Madsen made 41 saves for the shutout victory. Friars goalie Hayden Hawkey stopped 26 of 28 shots in the losing effort.

Air Force (5) Vs. Western Michigan (4) 
In one of the biggest upsets of the first round, The Falcons of Air Force upended the Western Michigan Broncos by a score of 5-4. The Falcons were led offensively by forwards Kyle Haak (2 goals) and Jordan Himley (1 goal, 2 assists). Broncos goaltender Ben Blacker stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced in the loss.

#2 Minnesota Duluth (3) Vs. Ohio State (2) OT 
The second ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs barely escaped the first round with the win, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes in overtime. The scoring started off in the second period when the Bulldogs scored two unanswered goals. The Buckeyes answered back with two goals of their own in the third period to send the game into overtime. Willie Raskob scored for the Bulldogs at 11:58 of the overtime period to push Minnesota Duluth onto the next round of the tournament.

North Dakota (3) Vs. Boston University (4) 2OT 
In the longest game of the tournament thus far, Boston University managed to pull out  4-3 victory in double overtime over North Dakota. Defenseman Charlie Mcavoy scored off of a beautiful feed from Clayton Keller at 11:48 of the second overtime period to send the Terriers on to the next round. North Dakota goaltender Cam Johnson stopped 25 of 29 shots in the losing effort.

Round #2: 

#3 Harvard (3) Vs. Air Force (2) 
The third ranked Harvard Crimson avoided a huge potential upset by beating the Air Force Falcons 3-2 in the second round of the tournament. The Crimson were lead by Ryan Donato (1 goal) and Alexander Kerfoot (2 assists) while Air Force goaltender Shane Starrett stopped 27 of 30 shots in the losing effort.

#2 Minnesota Duluth (3) Vs. Boston University (2) OT 
The Boston University Terriers lost 3-2 to Minnesota Duluth in their second overtime game in as many nights. Joey Anderson scored at the beginning of the third period to give Minnesota Duluth a 2-1 lead but Patrick Harper tied the game back up with four minutes left in the game. Bulldogs forward Adam Johnson scored the game winning goal at 1:57 of the Overtime period to send them to the frozen four.

Greyhounds' Offense Too much for Rangers, Rangers Fall 6-1

The Greyhounds from Sault Ste. Marie only needed 29 shots on goal to score 6 goals and defeat the Kitchener Rangers by a score of 6-1 in front of home crowd of 3,800 fans. The Greyhounds opened up the scoring halfway into the first period when forward Bobby Macintyre scored on the power play and left-winger Boris Katchouk scored a shorthanded goal, the first of two for Katchouk that would end up being the game winner. Rangers right winger Joseph Garreffa scored their lone goal with 3 minutes left in the game, but it was too little too late at that point. Greyhounds rookie goaltender Matthew Villalta saved 40 of the 41 shots he faced for the victory while Rangers goaltenders Luke Opilka and LukeRichardson combined to save 23 of 29 shots in the loss. This victory pushed the season series between these two teams to 3-1-0 in favor of Sault Ste. Marie and the 5-year series to 12-7-0 in favor of the greyhounds. Credit Elite Prospects  With the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea  less than a year away and NHL still not having any set plans in place for their sending their players to these games, it is looking as if the biggest hockey league in North America will not be participating. This does not come as a huge shock to any around the game as for the past couple Winter Olympics there has been complaints from fans and owners alike that stopping the NHL season right near the end to go and play in international competition was too disruptive to the league and its players.
